Phil Mickleson is the star attraction at the Greenbrier Classic which is being held for the second time at The Old White TPC in West Virginia this week.

Online bookmakers are giving free bets to new customers which can be used to bet on the PGA Tour golf, get a free golf bet when you place a bet on this week’s Greenbrier Classic.

Bookmakers have installed Mickleson favourite to win the tournament and he is available at odds of 10/1 with several leading bookmakers, including Unibet who are taking an adventurous stance on the Greenbrier Classic outright market by offering the top price on the first five players in the betting.

The world number six missed last years event and was taking his first look at the re-vamped course during practice earlier this week. Both Mickleson and his caddy Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay think the set up is just right for Mickleson’s aggressive game.

At his press conference Mickleson said: “I like old style golf courses. I like courses that are fun to play, courses you can make birdies, you can be aggressive on, you can recover if you make a mistake. This course seems to suit that.”

The 41-year-old Californian has won four majors and 39 PGA Tour events in his illustrious career, but has had a relatively lean spell this year.

His only PGA Tour win of the year came at the Shell Houston Open in April and he never threatened in the first two majors at the Masters and US Open. A spirited final day challenge at the Open Championship saw him make up a five-shot deficit on the front nine to draw level with Darren Clarke before eventually finishing second, his best ever result in the Open.

Things could be clicking into place for the final stretch which includes the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational next week, the USPGA Championship and PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup, Mickleson thinks so: “I felt like I kind of turned a corner for me and I’m starting to put things together slowly, be a little bit more patient and enjoy my time on the course and be more creative hitting shots again,” he said.
