The Washington Capitals, minus Alexander Ovechkin, host the Boston Bruins tonight, Tuesday Jan 24th, before the All-star break. This is the first meeting between the Capitals and the Bruins this season, and last year the Bruins took three-of-four games. The NHL oddsmakers have the Bruins as -175 moneyline road favorites over the Capitals with the over/under set at 5.5 goals. Boston (31-13, 15-6 V) was faced with back-to-back games over the weekend against the Rangers and Flyers, the Bruins captured three of four points by losing in the waning seconds of OT against the Rangers and winning in a shootout against the Flyers.  Its good, Lucic said of the Bruins successful weekend. Two teams that are on top of the League and the Eastern Conference, two teams that have played well all season. Its great that we were able to get one yesterday and get that shootout win here today. We still want to end on a high note going into Washington on Tuesday. David Krejci has 1 goal and 4 assists in the Bruins last four games.

The Bruins went 3-1 vs. the Caps last year, with Tim Thomas winning all three games. Tuukka Rask took the only loss against Washington. Nathan Horton will not play tonight against Washington because of a suspected head injury. Following yesterday’s ceremony at the White House, general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed that Horton is doubtful tonight. “I think it’s a mild concussion,’’ Chiarelli said. In 46 games, Horton has 17 goals and 15 assists. Assuming Horton is unavailable tonight, Zach Hamill would re-enter the lineup. Hamill hasn’t played since last Tuesday against the Lightning.

Washington (25-19, 17-6) are coming off an 3-4 OT loss in Pittsburgh, but there was a lot to like about the way the Caps played. They rallied from a 2-0 deficit and had a 3-2 lead in the third period, but the red-hot Evgeni Malkin scored in OT to keep the Caps from earning the extra point.

The Caps are victims of a recent suspension. Super star Alex Ovechkin was suspended for three games on Monday after crushing Zbynek Michalek into the boards. His suspension came the day after the announcement of Andrew Ferences three game suspension. Washington, already without Nicklas Backstrom (head injury) and Mike Green {abdominal surgery}, will be incredibly undermanned against the defending Stanley Cup champions, who enter Tuesday leading the Eastern Conference with 64 points. Goalie Tomas Vokoun will start against the Bruins. Vokoun is 5-9-3 with a 2.59 GAA and .930 SV% lifetime against Boston.
